Sweet Smoky Barbecue Sauce

Makes 12 servings.


2 teaspoons oil
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 cup finely chopped onion
1 6-ounce can tomato paste
1 cup water
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
⅓ cup Splenda Granular
2 teaspoons molasses
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon dry mustard
3-4 drops liquid smoke
Few drops Tabasco sauce (optional, to taste)


1. In a medium saucepan, heat oil and garlic over medium heat for 1 minute. Add onion and cook for 10 minutes, until onion is soft and translucent.
2. Add the remaining ingredients, stir well, and simmer for 20 minutes over low heat.
3. Remove from heat and mix in blender to smooth and blend flavors.
4. Cool, cover, and refrigerate (keeps for 2 weeks).
