Diabetes and Hearts

I traveled to China as a newly diagnosed diabetic and was totally paranoid about losing my insulin pens. Guess what? I lost them in the hubbub of travel. I notified my guide for the journey along with my traveling companions. Sixteen of us traced our steps for the past 24 hours, scouring buses, taxis, restaurants, and […]

Our story begins on Jan 25, 2009. My son Matthew age 8, had been feeling ill for a few days, vomiting, tired, pale and thirsty. (I myself had just gotten over a bout of the stomach flu), thinking he had more of the same, he just didn’t seem to be getting any better.

We called our doc […]

Diabetic Birthday

By |2026-02-18T11:05:00-05:00Updated: July 3rd, 2009|Diabetes Management, GlucoStories|0 Comments

Celebrate. That’s not usually the word people correlate with diabetes. Maybe a birthday or national holiday, but not a chronic illness – especially if diagnosed as a toddler. Stubborness Pays

My mother was diagnosed with diabetes nearly 20 years ago at age 66. This disease terrified her as her sister-in-law had already lost several toes and eventually her leg to diabetes. The Doctor explained that her diabetes could be controlled through diet and oral medication and did not require insulin, yet. If she continued with […]

Hi!

Glad to be here still. On June 1, 2009 my daughter insisted that I go to the emergency room at the hospital, I had been feeling bad for a while and had started vomiting everything I put in my stomach. I thought I had the flu. Upon arriving at the hospital my head starting ticking from […]

Never Knowing!

By |2026-02-18T11:24:52-05:00Updated: July 2nd, 2009|Diabetes Management, GlucoStories|0 Comments

My story starts in October of 2008.

I woke up one day and noticed I had a light blind spot in my left eye. I thought maybe I slept on it funny, and after a few days it would go away. After 2 days of it not going away I decided to go to the emergency room. […]

My Dad Almost DIED, But Now He Helps Diabetics

By |2026-02-18T11:32:51-05:00Updated: July 2nd, 2009|Diabetes Management, GlucoStories|0 Comments

Luckily, I haven’t had any major illnesses. But several years ago, I had to help my Dad, who almost died from a diabetic coma. He had stopped playing basketball and tennis, and had put on 50-60 pounds, maybe more — over a period of 7 to 8 years. He was taking Lipitor to lower his cholesterol, […]
