All American Barbecued Beans

Ingredients:

  • 1 slice turkey bacon
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 teaspoon prepared mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 (15 1/2 ounce) can Great Northern beans, drained
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons Equal for recipes or 8 packets Equal sweetener or 1/3 cup Equal Spoonful

Stovetop Directions:

  1. Cut bacon into 1 inch pieces; cook in medium saucepan over medium-high heat for 3 to 4 minutes. Add onion and cook until bacon is crisp and onion is tender, stirring occasionally.
  2. Mix ketchup, vinegar, water, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper in pan.
  3. Stir in beans and reduce heat to simmer. Cover until flavors are blended (about 15 to 20 minutes).
  4. Stir in Equal and serve.

Microwave Directions:

  1. Cut bacon into 1 inch pieces and place in 1 1/2 quart microwavable casserole dish.
  2. Cook uncovered at High 1 minute.
  3. Add onion and cook at High for 2 1/2 to 3 minutes, stirring once.
  4. Combine ketchup, vinegar, water, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper into bacon mixture.
  5. Next, stir in beans and cover with lid or plastic wrap.
  6. Cook on High for 4 minutes and hten cook at medium for 8 to 10 minutes or until flavors are blended, stirring twice.
  7. Stir in Equal and serve.
