A simple homemade applesauce made with tart apples, cinnamon, and nutmeg, simmered until tender and lightly mashed for a warm, comforting side or snack.

Ingredients
  

  • 3 ½ pounds tart cooking apples (about 8 large), peeled, cored and chopped
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 cup Equal® Spoonful or 24 packets of Equal sweetener
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Method
 

  1. Combine apples and water in large saucepan; heat to boiling. Reduce heat and simmer, covered, 20 to 25 minutes or until apples are tender.
  2. Mash apples coarsely with fork. Stir in Equal®, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt.
  3. Serve warm, or refrigerate and serve chilled.
