  • Gestational Diabetes

Does anyone currently have gestational diabetes? Insulin needs change trimester to trimester. For example: during the first trimester insulin needs may be reduced due to increased insulin production, and the more moderate intake of food due to possible nausea, vomitting ("morning sickness"). Another reason is that glucose is transferred to the fetus during this time. During the second trimester, insulin needs increase due to the hormones that are elevated (the hormones like cortisol, insulinase and others that increase glucose levels). If you are pregnant and have diabetes please see an educator to make sure you are aware of the changes you will experience. Stay well!
