Charles Mattocks, "The Poor Chef", passionate about healthy food

Charles Mattocks, "The Poor Chef"

Each career move Celebrity Chef Mattocks has made has been in keeping with his desire to touch lives in a positive way. Inspired by his uncle, the late Bob Marley, Mattocks dared to dream big. After giving a stunning performance in the title role of the Emmy nominated "The Summer of Ben Tyler", Mattocks could have continued as a successful actor. Instead this single dad decided the Hollywood lifestyle was not the best for his young son and moved across the country.

His need to create meals that were tasty, nutritious, and affordable led to his career as "The Poor Chef". Appearances on The Today Show, Good Morning America, Martha Stewart, CNN and Dr. Oz gave him the opportunity to share what he had learned about feeding a family for less money. He became a sought after guest on local and regional radio and television stations. Once again he achieved success. His Best Selling Cookbook "Eat Cheap But Eat Well" soared to #1 and life couldn't get better.

Then came devastating news. Charles Mattocks had type 2 diabetes. Reading all he could about the disease made him all too aware of how little he actually had known about diabetes. He was determined to save his life and knew he had to help others do the same. He picked up a camera and "The Diabetic You" was born. His powerful documentary film, web sites, and movement came out of that determination to educate and inspire people around the world. He is doing just that. From multiple appearances on CNN and other major networks, to his own Atlanta-based Talk Radio Show "The Healthy Dish" to the many television programs across the country and major interviews in publications like the Huffington Post, LA Post, Diabetic Living, Diabetes Forecast, Everyday Health, and Cosmopolitan. Charles is an expert adviser and writes a leading blog on the Dr. Oz website and has just begun his advisory position and regular blog editorial for Anderson Cooper. The world is learning about Charles Mattocks' war against diabetes.

From being named as an official spokesperson for the American Diabetic Association and next author of their newest diabetic cookbook, to a Hero and Blue Circle Champion for the International Diabetes Federation, Charles will be traveling around the world this year documenting the epidemic and delivering the answers, help and hope to the millions suffering with this disease.

He is committed to providing free health testing for everyone. His National RV Testing Tour will appear everywhere from major sporting events like the PGA and NFL, major shopping malls, churches, state fairs and will be rolling the highways everywhere in between.

During a recent humanitarian trip to India, Mattocks and his team set up community camps and tested and treated hundreds for diabetes. In September he will be a featured speaker at a prestigious TEDx conference in San Francisco and as a featured spokesman for the ADA at the National Black Caucus Convention.

A heroic and tireless advocate for diabetics everywhere and on a mission to spread awareness around the world, Charles Mattocks, is determined to help stem the time of this deadly disease.
