On March 25, 2008 on American Diabetes Alert day, American Diabetes Wholesale attended the health seminar at the Specialty Care Center in Fort Lauderdale, FL. There were about 100 patients who had showed up for a free blood glucose and also blood pressure readings. There were excellent lectures on diet, exercise, feet, eyes, stress, anything and everything that someone with diabetes would need to know about and how to manage.
People with diabetes weigh their options carefully when it comes to what they eat. Sugar and sweeteners are no exception to that rule.
Some people may prefer the taste of table sugar (sucrose) to other sweeteners. But, they also know the harmful effects that sugar can have. When people with diabetes eat too many sugary foods, blood glucose levels can skyrocket dangerously. Over time, elevated sugar levels can lead to permanent damage of the eyes, kidneys, nerves, heart, and other organs. For this reason, many people choose to substitute artificial sweeteners for some or all of the sugar in their diets.
It has long been suspected that there is a link between stress and diabetes. It has also been observed that people with diabetes sometimes experience cognitive decline as the disease progresses. A new study from National Institute on Aging (NIA) explores these connections and offers hope for improved diabetes management.
The Healthy Living Expo in The Villages, Fl was a successful event. With over 1,000 attendees there was information for them on their diabetes, blood pressure, cholesterol, comfortable shoes, and other health support materials. American Diabetes Wholesale's sugar free low-carb candies were a huge success with the residents. These candies are not just great for people with diabetes, but everybody in general. They are the D-Lectable candies.
The organizers of this event, Jim and Nancy Smith, are dedicated to their diabetes support group and worked extremely hard to organize and set this whole event up. All proceeds were donated to the Florida Children's with Diabetes Camp.
We look forward to returning to next year's event.
